Job Summary:

ISC just launched its Workers’ Compensation platform with BusinessFirst Insurance, a new brand that builds on the longstanding strength of RetailFirst Insurance Group, with over 13,000 policies, service in 8 states with $180M+ Written Premium.

The Workers' Compensation Loss Control Representative provides consultative risk management and occupational safety services to current and prospective policyholders. This role partners with employers to identify workplace hazards, evaluate safety programs, and recommend practical solutions that reduce employee injuries, improve regulatory compliance, and minimize workers' compensation claim frequency and severity. The representative conducts on-site safety evaluations, assists employers in developing effective injury prevention strategies, analyzes loss trends, and collaborates with Underwriting and Claims to support sound risk selection, pricing, and claim reduction initiatives. Success in this role requires strong technical knowledge of occupational safety, effective relationship management, and the ability to communicate practical recommendations that improve workplace safety and operational performance. Travel throughout the assigned territory using various forms of transportation, including automobile and occasional air travel, is required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage an assigned book of workers' compensation policyholders within a designated territory.
  • Conduct on-site loss control surveys, risk assessments, and follow-up visits to evaluate workplace hazards, employee exposures, and safety management practices. Identify operational risks that may contribute to workplace injuries and workers' compensation losses.
  • Develop written reports that document findings, evaluate existing controls, and provide actionable recommendations to reduce occupational injuries.
  • Review loss history and claim data to identify trends and prioritize risk improvement opportunities.
  • Consult with employers to develop, implement, and improve injury and illness prevention programs, safety policies, and loss prevention initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and workers' compensation risk management strategies.
  • Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and educational presentations for policyholders and internal business partners as appropriate.
  • Partner with Underwriting by providing technical assessments that support account selection, pricing, renewals, and risk improvement strategies.
  • Collaborate with Claims and Underwriting personnel on large or complex losses to identify contributing factors and recommend corrective actions that reduce future claims.
  • Maintain accurate inspection documentation, service plans, activity reports, and customer communications.
  • Stay current on occupational safety regulations, industry trends, and emerging workplace hazards.
  • Participate as needed in marketing/presentations to assigned agencies.
  • Participate in departmental projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Risk Management, Engineering, Safety Sciences, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 7 years of Workers Compensation loss control or related insurance experience required
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • OSHA 30 mandatory certification
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, ARM, or other occupational safety credentials are preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn company-specific software
