Senior Consultant - Energy Analytics & Evaluation

Resource Innovations · Louisville · United States

Remote Full time USD 90k–144k / year Posted Open until 18 Oct 2026

The job, in the employer's words

Resource Innovations is seeking a Senior Consultant to join our Advisory Services team. This role is ideal for an experienced analyst, economist, statistician, or evaluation professional who wants to apply advanced quantitative methods to some of the most important challenges facing utilities today, including demand flexibility, transportation electrification, distributed energy resources, battery storage, virtual power plants, and grid modernization.

As a Senior Consultant, you will lead analytical workstreams that help utilities, regulators, and public agencies understand the impacts of demand-side management programs and make data-driven decisions about future investments. You will work with large AMI and interval datasets, customer billing records, program tracking systems, and survey research to estimate program impacts, assess customer behavior, and support resource planning. You will also have the opportunity to lead projects or key tasks, directing the work of junior analysts, keeping deliverables on schedule, and making sure results meet a high standard of quality before they reach the client.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex analytical problems, translating technical findings into actionable insights, and collaborating closely with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.

Resource Innovations (RI) is a women-led energy transformation firm focused on impact. Building on our expertise in energy efficiency, we're constantly expanding our portfolio of clean energy solutions to guide utilities through increasingly complex, connected challenges. Load flexibility. Electrification. Carbon reduction. With every step, we're leading the charge to power change.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilize and apply economic and statistical tools in support of business and policy analysis for clients in a variety of fields, but especially for demand-side management in the electricity industry.
  • Estimate program load impacts using experimental and quasi-experimental methods, including randomized controlled trials, matched control groups, and difference-in-differences regression.
  • Clean, process, and analyze large interval and AMI datasets, customer billing data, program tracking data, and survey data using Stata, R, or Python.
  • Manipulate project-related data to assess trends and/or patterns and their ramifications from a policy or program perspective.
  • Develop quantitative cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness, or risk models, and build forecasting and scenario tools for program planning.
  • Support the design and administration of customer surveys, including sampling plans, instrument development, and analysis of results.
  • Contribute to evaluation plans, baseline methodology development, and load impact protocol documentation.
  • Assist senior staff in the preparation of reports, presentations, and testimony describing the results of projects, including regulatory filings and compliance deliverables.
  • Produce clear tables, figures, and visualizations, and proofread deliverables for accuracy, formatting, and usage.
  • Assist in proposal preparation and other business development opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as economics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or public policy with a quantitative focus, with at least four years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience performing econometric and statistical modeling.
  • Experience and expertise with statistical analysis using software such as Stata, R, Python, SAS, or other data management languages or software.
  • Ability to translate data into compelling report and presentation formats.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills, as well as client interface capabilities.
  • Previous experience in the energy industry.
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment.
  • Desire to develop existing and new skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Preferred skills, education and experience

  • Experience evaluating demand response, energy efficiency, behavioral, time-of-use, or distributed energy resource programs, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Experience with experimental design, including randomized controlled trials and matched control group selection.
  • Experience working with hourly interval or AMI data at scale, including load shape analysis and event-day performance estimation.
  • Familiarity with load impact protocols, evaluation, measurement and verification frameworks, and cost-effectiveness testing.
  • Ability to proactively identify and troubleshoot problems that arise during projects, and to defend and explain analytical approaches to clients.
  • Knowledge of natural gas and/or electric utility industry operations and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with battery storage, virtual power plant, or electric vehicle program analysis.
  • Experience supporting proposals or responding to utility RFPs.
  • Experience presenting analysis results and recommendations to clients, and at conferences or other industry events
