The job, in the employer's words

Location: U.S.-flexible; Remote/Hybrid. If based in Los Angeles, primarily from our West LA office; travel ~25% to portfolio companies.

Who We Are

Brentwood Associates is a Los Angeles–based private equity firm with 30+ years investing in middle-market growth businesses across essential services and software.  We typically invest in profitable companies generating ~$10–$50M EBITDA, writing equity checks between $25M–$125M (larger with co-investment). We partner with ambitious entrepreneurs and management teams to scale great businesses - often via control investments in fragmented markets that benefit from consolidation and product/service innovation. If you love numbers, deals, and building big outcomes through aggressive growth initiatives and operational excellence, you’ll fit right in. Check us out at brentwood.com.

Role Overview

We’re building a world‑class Growth & Operations (GO) team to accelerate value creation across our portfolio. We’re hiring an Operating Partner – Finance (CFO / SVP Finance profile) to architect and scale finance, accounting, and revenue operations across 18+ active companies spanning education & training, health services, franchising, and residential services end markets.  You’ve built durable finance organizations in middle‑market, PE‑backed environments and balance repeatable playbooks with tailored, company‑specific solutions.

Put that experience to work owning the portfolio‑wide finance operating system - standards, cadence, and tooling - with clear decision rights to set policy, approve systems roadmaps, and green‑light critical hires.

What You’ll Be Doing

Portfolio Finance Leadership

·       Codify playbooks for monthly close acceleration, reporting discipline, and budget‑to‑actual FP&A.

·       Lead portfolio‑wide rollout of Henon.ai, a leading provider of AI-native performance management software across Brentwood portfolio companies - integrating proprietary generative‑AI capabilities, standardizing reporting, improving prediction accuracy, and driving cross‑company insights and adoption.

·       Set portfolio‑wide policies for close timing, forecasting cadence, and KPI taxonomy; establish escalation and exception paths.

·       Standardize board/investor reporting packages; elevate forecasting rigor.

·       Drive working capital optimization and cash‑flow forecasting.

·       Evaluate and deploy ERP, FP&A, billing, and data/BI systems.

·       Mature revenue operations (quoting → billing → collections → renewals; pricing), with depth in SaaS.

·       Embed with management teams at key inflection points (post‑investment, ERP upgrades, PMI, carve‑outs).

·       Define and roll out KPIs/metrics to increase visibility and accountability.

·       Lead financial integration and synergy realization for add‑on M&A.

Cross‑Functional Influence

·       Liaise between investment teams and portfolio finance to align on priorities and value drivers.

·       Partner with GO peers (GTM, People, Tech) on cross‑functional transformation.

·       Support diligence and post‑close value creation plans for new platforms and add‑ons.

Talent Development

·       Recruit, assess, and onboard CFOs/VPs of Finance across the portfolio.

·       Mentor first‑time CFOs; raise the bar for finance talent at all levels.

·       Build a vetted bench of interim/fractional/advisory finance leaders.

·       Co‑create a Finance Center of Excellence: tools, templates, vendors, benchmarks.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

·       15+ years progressive finance leadership; at least one seat as CFO or divisional SVP Finance.

·       PE‑backed, growth‑stage experience; multi‑site or multi‑entity preferred.

·       Cross‑model fluency: essential services, consumer multi‑unit, and SaaS/recurring revenue.

·       Entrepreneurial builder who pilots, iterates, and scales modern finance tech—ERP/FP&A/billing, automation, and AI/analytics—to deliver real‑time insight and operational leverage, with strong controls and responsible‑AI practices.

·       Experience with platforms such as NetSuite / MS Dynamics 365 / SAP S/4, Adaptive/Anaplan/Planful, Zuora/Chargebee, Tableau/Power BI/Snowflake (or similar).

·       Exposure to M&A integration and corporate development (preferred).

·       Prior PE operating partner experience or consulting to PE‑backed CFOs (preferred).

Attributes

·       Operator’s bias to action; sleeves‑up problem solver.

·       Structured thinker; turns complexity into scalable systems.

·       High EQ; influences without direct authority.

·       Systems‑oriented; leverages technology to enable performance.

·       Cross‑industry curiosity; adaptable across software and services.

Benefits

Why Brentwood’s GO Team

·       Shape the trajectory of 18+ companies across multiple growth-oriented sectors.

·       Partner closely with world‑class investors and management teams.

·       Build a durable finance excellence legacy across the portfolio.

·       Join a collaborative, high‑integrity culture focused on operational excellence.
