In this role, you will support the planning and design of electrical systems for federal facilities and infrastructure projects. Working alongside experienced engineers and designers, you will gain exposure to federal design standards, including UFC, DoD, and VA requirements, while developing technical expertise in power distribution, lighting, communications, and other building electrical systems.

This position provides hands-on experience designing mission-critical facilities and offers the opportunity to contribute to projects that support national interests while building a strong foundation for your engineering career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of electrical systems for federal facilities, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, communications, and life safety systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations, system layouts, and equipment selections under the guidance of licensed engineers.
  • Develop and apply knowledge of electrical engineering principles, codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Utilize engineering and design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, or other electrical modeling and analysis tools.
  • Assist with project schedules, design coordination efforts, and interdisciplinary collaboration with mechanical, civil, structural, and architectural teams.
  • Research applicable federal design criteria and recommend solutions to technical challenges.
  • Gain experience creating and maintaining project information within the firm's project management systems.
  • May travel to project sites and federal installations to support design development, construction, and project coordination activities.

Why Join Us?

  • Contributes to projects that support national defense, public service, and critical federal infrastructure.
  • Enjoy flexible work arrangements, including remote work options.
  • Grow your technical expertise through mentorship, professional development opportunities, and exposure to complex federal projects.
  • Be part of a collaborative and innovative environment that values teamwork, learning, and career growth.

Qualifications

You Are Passionate About:

  • Solving complex engineering challenges.
  • Working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Building technical expertise and continuous learning.
  • Using your talents to positively impact communities and federal clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in Power.
  • Minimum of one year of engineering experience, internship experience, or equivalent academic project experience.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles related to building and facility systems.
  • Working knowledge of, or ability to become proficient in, design and modeling software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, AGi32, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical building systems is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to travel and perform occasional field work as required.

At Olsson, your expertise helps deliver innovative solutions for projects that matter. If you're passionate about electrical engineering, eager to grow your technical skills, and excited to contribute to impactful federal projects, we'd love to hear from you.
