MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio is our newest offering for Ohio families looking for a flexible public school option. The school will serve grades 7-11 in its first year. The school aims to serve 250 students year one, with plans to grow to over 1,000 students by 2030. 🚀

Role Summary

The Academic Dean leads the instructional team and is the school's authority on academic standards at MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio (MOAO), including student conduct, attendance compliance, and academic integrity. This person is the primary leader for teacher supervision and development, oversees academic data and testing coordination, and works closely with the Student Support team (counselors and advisors), who lead student interventions and support. As a member of the MOAO leadership team, the Academic Dean contributes to schoolwide strategy and helps keep instruction, student culture, and compliance with Ohio requirements working together. The role calls for someone who can coach teachers with warmth and rigor, handle sensitive student and family situations with sound judgment, and use data to make decisions.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead recruiting, onboarding, and training for new teachers.

  • Observe live instruction and office hours on a bi-weekly basis and provide actionable feedback.

  • Monitor grading practices to ensure students receive timely, high-quality feedback.

  • Complete annual and semi-annual walk-throughs and performance reviews as outlined by the ODEW and manage bi-weekly timecard approvals.

  • Coordinate instructional and grading coverage for teacher absences.

  • Address performance concerns through clear expectations, documentation, and, when needed, formal improvement plans in partnership with People Operations.

Student Conduct, Attendance & Academic Integrity

  • Own the school's student conduct process, from initial report through investigation, determination, and documentation, applying policy consistently and fairly and creating policy where needed.

  • Oversee academic integrity cases, including investigating suspected plagiarism, AI misuse, and other violations, and ensuring consistent, well-documented outcomes.

  • Own the school's truancy and attendance compliance process, including required notifications, documentation, and filings under Ohio law.

  • Partner with the Student Support team, which leads outreach, intervention plans, and ongoing student support. Hand off cases and coordinate so that accountability and support work together.

  • Serve as the escalation point for teachers and Student Support on conduct, attendance, and integrity concerns.

  • Communicate with students and families about conduct and integrity decisions in a way that is clear, respectful, and focused on getting students back on track.

  • Maintain accurate records and report on trends in conduct, attendance, and integrity cases to school leadership.

  • Keep handbooks, policies, and procedures current in these areas.

Academic Data & Testing Coordination

  • Analyze course-, teacher-, and school-level data on performance, engagement, and attendance to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Turn data into action by recommending and implementing instructional strategies, and share insights with Student Support to inform their interventions.

  • Serve as the school's testing coordinator for Ohio state assessments and other required or school-administered testing, including scheduling, proctoring logistics, test security, accommodations coordination, and make-up testing.

  • Partner with the appropriate teams on state data reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Prepare clear summaries of academic and testing data for leadership, teachers, and families.

Professional Development

  • Design and lead regular PD sessions for instructional staff, informed by teacher feedback, observation, and student data.

  • Build a culture of continuous improvement, reflective practice, and growth for the instructional team.

  • Collaborate with school and company leadership on schoolwide professional learning priorities.

Curriculum & Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Gather teacher and student feedback and make curriculum recommendations.

  • Support consistency in instructional practice and expectations across courses and departments.

  • Lead regular instructional team meetings to align resources, expectations, and practices.
