Posizione
This role is offered on an Italian employment contract. Candidates must be based in Italy as we are unable to support remote working from outside the country due to local employment and tax legislation.
This role leads the team that runs Deltatre's data services: large-scale data processing, onboarding and offboarding of tenant data, and the content recommendations behind our customers' products.
As Senior Engineering Manager, Data Services, you'll set direction and review designs rather than write code day to day. This is a technical leadership role: you'll lead a distributed team, and be the senior technical escalation point for customers on how their data is handled.
Responsibilities
Delivery and team leadership
- Lead a mixed team of permanent analysts and contract engineers across three regions to predictable, high-quality delivery
- Build strong asynchronous working practices across the distributed team
Data platform and recommendations
- Set technical direction and run design review for the Java/AWS estate (S3, EMR, Kinesis)
- Own SLOs for data freshness and pipeline reliability
- Own incident response and cloud cost
- Own the pipelines and services behind content recommendations, and how their quality is measured
Tenant data and governance
- Own a repeatable, auditable onboarding and offboarding process for tenant data, including verified deletion when a tenant leaves
- Work with the Cyber Security team on controlled, audited access to tenant data, including cross-region access
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and other privacy regulations
Product and customer partnership
- Partner with Product on the roadmap
- Act as the technical escalation point for customers, working with account managers and solutions engineers
Requisiti
This is the experience that will help you hit the ground running.
Required
- 10+ years in software or data engineering
- 4-5 years leading engineering teams
- Track record leading distributed teams across time zones, including contractors or a delivery partner
- Deep Java/JVM experience, enough to review designs and challenge approaches
- Deep AWS data services experience, enough to spot cost or reliability problems
- Practical experience with data privacy and access control
- Practical experience with regulatory compliance, including GDPR and other privacy regulations
- Confidence explaining technical decisions to customers and senior stakeholders
Valued
- Experience with recommendation systems
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS data platforms
- Background in media, streaming, or sports technology
Who Thrives Here
This role sits where engineering depth meets customer trust. Customers want to know exactly how their data is handled, and you're the person who can answer in plain terms and back it with an audit trail. It suits someone who stays technical enough to challenge a design or spot a cost or reliability problem without writing the code, and who leads a team spread across three regions, mixing permanent staff and contractors, without everyone being online at the same time.
People who do well here make working agreements explicit, so a team across time zones delivers predictably in writing rather than only in meetings. They treat privacy, access control, and verified deletion as engineering requirements rather than checkboxes, and they explain a technical decision to a customer or senior stakeholder in terms they can act on.
Process and what to expect
Salary starts from €30,000 at entry level rising to €90,000 for those with significant relevant experience. Where you land depends on the experience and expertise you bring. If your expectations sit outside the range, tell us anyway - we're happy to have an open conversation. Internal progression is assessed through a structured process combining a technical assessment and a competency-based interview. The role falls under CCNL Commercio | D.Lgs. 96/2026.

If any of these formats would be difficult for you, tell us - we adjust regularly and can usually accommodate.
