  • Remote That’s why we spend most of the week in the office, with regular opportunities to work remotely — job description

The job, in the employer's words

Universal Music is the market leader in the music business. The world’s most famous and most successful record labels belong to us. We’ve been writing music history for over 100 years representing legendary musicians across all genres. Our accomplishments are driven by our love for music, extraordinary artists and our ambitious team.

Beats & Bytes (B3S) is a network of small, autonomous product teams, who act as microenterprises. To be agile and innovative, we live and foster psychological safety, constructive nonconformity, and diversity of thought. Empowerment and community are part of our culture. As the technical backbone we generate added value for Universal Music by solving our users’ problems. The B3S-Team forms the digital foundation for our business and actively contributes to the competitive advantage of Universal Music.

Here’s your chance to shape our future together with us! Effective immediately, we’re looking for a Product Designer (all genders) to become part of our Design & Insights Team within Beats & Bytes at our Headquarters in Berlin. It will be a full-time position, initially limited to 2 years, with the possibility of extension, reporting to the VP Product.

Your gig:

  • As a Product Designer, you will help design an internal tool used by teams across Universal Music Group to plan, manage, and collaborate on music releases
  • You will work closely with product, engineering, research, and senior designers to understand user needs, define problems, and design clear, usable solutions
  • You will be involved across the full design process: mapping workflows, exploring concepts, creating prototypes, testing ideas with users, and preparing high-quality designs for implementation
  • You will actively contribute to our design language ecosystems, helping us create consistent, scalable, and well-crafted product experiences across our platforms
  • You will use AI tools thoughtfully in your design process and help us explore how AI can improve the way we work, design, and build products

We are keen to jam with you if you:

  • Have 3+ years of experience designing digital products, ideally internal tools, SaaS products, or complex workflows
  • Bring a portfolio that shows strong product thinking, interaction design skills, and well-crafted visual design
  • Are strong in interface design, layout, typography, information architecture, and interaction patterns
  • Have worked with design systems, and know how to use existing components, contribute improvements, and design with consistency and scalability in mind
  • Are interested in AI and want to stay up to date with how AI tools and workflows can support product design, research, and collaboration
  • Feel confident reading, writing, and speaking English, and can communicate efficiently in technical as well as business-related contexts; German skills are a plus and the willingness to learn the language is encouraged

Your personality matters:

  • You are collaborative, approachable, and thrive in a globally distributed environment, partnering effectively with colleagues across functions and time zones
  • You communicate openly and clearly and know how to explain your ideas and design decisions to different audiences
  • You have a strong interest in digital products, technology, and digital transformation
  • You are curious, proactive, and comfortable navigating ambiguity while helping move work forward
  • You value feedback and see critique as an opportunity to improve both your work and the work of others
  • You are comfortable with challenging assumptions and the status quo in a constructive and respectful way
  • You are organized, reliable, and able to stay focused when priorities shift

Our values, our compass, our culture:

  • Creativity – Home to Artists, Innovators and Entrepreneurs.
  • Connection – We are ONE team.
  • Passion – Music is our first love.
  • Responsibility – It’s up to us.
  • Diversity – Music is universal.
  • Factuition – Guided by head AND heart.
